Take chapter assessments and earn your certificate

Each chapter of The Control Standard has a short assessment — ten in all, one quiz per chapter of the book. Pass a chapter at 70% or above to badge it; pass all ten and you've earned the certificate. Open Chapter assessments under Learn in the sidebar to see the chapter grid.

You don't need the e-learning courses first. If you've read the book, take the assessments directly — the Book Companion links straight here from its Certified Assessment card, and each e-learning course ends with an Open assessment → link to its matching chapter.

Track your progress on the chapter grid

1. Open Chapter assessments. The progress card shows chapters passed, your percentage towards the certificate, and one numbered chip per chapter — press a chip to jump to that chapter's card.
2. Each card carries a status: Achieved (passed), Needs another go (attempted, not yet passed), Not started, or Locked (needs a paid plan — press Unlock with paid plan to see pricing).

Cards you've attempted show your best score and attempt count, so you can see what's left without opening anything.

Take a chapter assessment

1. Press Start assessment on a chapter card. The overview shows how many questions you'll get and the 70% pass mark.
2. Press Start the assessment (Take it again on a retake).
3. Answer one question at a time. Questions marked Required always appear; the rest are sampled from a larger pool. Pick all that apply flags multi-answer questions.
4. Press Next after each question, check the Review answers step, then press Submit answers.

Your answers save to your device as you go — press Save and exit (or just close the tab) and the attempt resumes where you left off. On submit you'll see your score, a required/optional breakdown, and a review of every question. A pass offers a Share your win image for LinkedIn or Slack (also available later via Share image on the chapter card). Either way, you can write a short reflection on the result page; reflections are shared with your manager and with Scorchsoft.

Retake a chapter

1. Press Try again on the chapter card, then Take it again.

Retakes are unlimited and your best score stands. Each attempt re-rolls the optional question sample, so it's worth re-reading the chapter between goes.

Generate your certificate

1. When all ten chapters show Achieved, the dashboard announces Your certificate is ready. — press Generate certificate.
2. The certificate page shows who it's issued to, your overall score and per-chapter scores. The certificate is issued the first time you open this page, which fixes the issue date and scores.
3. Press Download PDF.

If a chapter still needs passing, the same page shows Almost there. with the exact gaps to close.

Share and verify the certificate

1. On the certificate page, press Copy verification link.
2. Send the link to anyone — it opens at /learn/verify/<id> without a sign-in and confirms the certificate is genuine.

The page shows your name, company, issue date, overall score and per-chapter scores, and nothing else. It's blocked from search engines, and the QR code on the PDF points to the same page.

Invite your manager (free plan)

1. On the free plan, the dashboard shows Ask your manager to enable certification. — press Invite your manager.
2. Enter Your manager's email (name and Company name (optional) are optional) and press Send invitation.

Once your manager accepts, a paid organisation is created with them as admin and you're moved into it — your chapter progress and best scores come with you.

Who can do this

Everyone — the take_assessment permission is granted to all four default roles (Admin, Manager, Contributor and Viewer), so any signed-in member sees Chapter assessments in the sidebar. Plans gate the chapters, not the feature: the free plan unlocks Chapter 1, and the remaining chapters and the certificate PDF download need a paid plan. Managers and admins with the view_team_assessments permission can see team members' results and reflections via Team progress.
