Take the e-learning courses

E-learning turns The Control Standard into courses you take rather than pages you read. There's one course per chapter of the book, plus an Orientation course, and each course splits into sub-modules of ten to twenty minutes — active steps that ask you to answer, decide and recall, not just scroll.

The e-learning is optional. If you've read the book, you already hold the standard — press Skip to chapter assessments → at the top of the catalogue and go straight to badging chapters. Courses and assessments cover the same standard; take whichever route suits how you learn.

Tell the app how much of the book you've read

1. Open E-learning under Learn in the sidebar.
2. In the Have you read the book? card, choose Read, Partial or Not yet.
3. If you choose Partial, a Chapters finished row expands — tick the chapter numbers you've finished (they don't need to be consecutive) and press Save.

This is a self-report, and it helps your manager see who's already holding the standard on the team coaching view. Press Clear any time to reset it. Haven't got the book? The card links to Get the book →.

Start a course

1. On the catalogue, each card shows the course number, an estimated time, a progress bar and one dot per sub-module — so you can see what's left without clicking in.
2. Press Open → on a course (Resume → if you've started it, Review → if it's complete).
3. On the course page, press Start → on a sub-module — or Resume → to pick up where you left off.

Courses run in book order; use the Next course and Previous course buttons at the bottom of a course page to move between them.

Work through a sub-module

1. The sub-module opens in focus mode — the sidebar disappears so nothing competes with the content. Exit to course at the top is your way back.
2. Move through the steps: concepts, worked examples, retrieval questions, scenario decisions and a summary.
3. Finish the final step to mark the sub-module complete.

Every step you visit is recorded as you go, so you can leave at any point and the sub-module reopens at your last step. Completion is sticky: if the content is updated after you finish, the course page shows an Updated badge on that sub-module — your completion stands, and reopening it clears the badge.

Move on to the chapter assessment

1. When a course's sub-modules are done, the course page shows a Take the chapter assessment card.
2. Press Open assessment →.

The assessment audits the same standard the course teaches; pass at 70% to badge the chapter.

Who can do this

Everyone — the take_elearning permission is granted to all four default roles (Admin, Manager, Contributor and Viewer), so any signed-in member sees E-learning in the sidebar. What the plan changes is which courses are unlocked: the free plan includes Orientation and Chapter 1, and the remaining courses need a paid plan. Locked courses stay visible with an Unlock with paid plan button. Your progress and book status are your own; managers see them only through the team coaching view.
